New York’s town of Southeast and the charming village of Brewster go hand-in-hand but while the names may be interchangeable, the town of Southeast and the village of Brewster are distinct on many levels. Southeast, the second largest town in Putman County is a sprawling 35-square-mile town with over 17,000 residents and on route 22 new stores mix with the older Ski Haus and Red Rooster Drive-In. Reservoirs and woodlands along these corridors serve to maintain Southeast's rural character. By contrast, Brewster is a one-square-mile village largely identified by one artery, Main Street. Charming haunts, including Bob's Diner and the artsy Boone Dog Coffee House add to the village's eclectic flair. Southeast’s school system is comprised of two elementary schools, one Intermediate 4-5 School, one middle school and one high school.
